TRUTH is surely on the side of human lives
I strongly believe in the democratic ideal that TRUTH and what's right will always emerge triumphant amidst all the opposing points of view and that freedom of speech, which often leads to an overabundance of opposing opinions and which can be chaotic at times, in fact, serves to lead us to the TRUTH.
In today's debate over gun control, I can't wait for TRUTH to emerge; for if the non-budging gun enthusiasts and powers that be at the NRA are right, then we can all just sadly resign to the fact that we will just keep on losing lives in order for those who are fighting for their right to bear their automatic and semi-automatic assault rifles without going through background checks in the name of the second amendment to be able to keep adding the latest weapon to their personal arsenals.
On the other hand, if TRUTH in fact affirms the value of human lives over amassing guns, then we can move forward and talk more about how we can implement and enforce stricter gun laws, not whether we should. We can focus on supporting and electing those officials who value safety and send the message that if a public official insists on serving the NRA, then let them go work for the NRA. They have no place in government.
I watch and share the heartbreaking stories on this page from DemandAPlan.org to inform, to honor the lives that have been tragically lost, and to remind everyone who cares about this issue that we can't let this rest, that we need to keep the conversation going. We need to keep the pressure on Capitol Hill and remind them that all the money and klout that the NRA has don't stand a lick against TRUTH and, indeed, shouldn't.
